The twentieth in our series following artist-led initiatives around the UK and our first interview recorded in the Rea Garden in Digbeth, Birmingham where [insertspace] have commissioned Project Pigeon.

[insertspace] is an independant curatorial project based in Birmingham, which commissions artists to make new work, often for public sites and contexts.

[insertspace] was founded in 2005, by Cheryl Jones, Charlotte Smith and Matt Westbrook, initially setting out to explore the relationship between art and audience.

Since the interview in September 2009, Cheryl & Matt have┬átaken a break from doing [insertspace] to concentrate on Grand Union – Cheryl curates there and Matt is a studio holder. It opened in March 2010 officially with Cheryl working on an exhibition with Jamie Shovlin that will opened in September. There’s more info at grand-union.org.uk on the background of the organisation if you need it.
